The IIT colleges of India are declared the most important institutions in India by the Parliament of India. Under the authority of Institutes of Technology Act, 1961, sixteen IIT colleges are located across different parts of India. There are a total of 23 gifted IITs in India, which are governed by the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961, and are declared necessary Institutes of a State by the Parliament of India. All courses offered at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are managed by All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), which was established in the year 1945.    

Studying in an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) is the dream of every Indian engineering student. Getting admission to the IIT is the aspiration of many students all over the country.

IIT Hyderabad houses a School of Fundamental Sciences, School of Engineering, and School of Humanities & Social Science. Currently, IIT Bhubaneswar has courses in basic sciences, electrical sciences, infrastructure, mechanical sciences, and humanities, social sciences, and management. The Institute offers B.Tech courses in three disciplines, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. IIT Guwahati offers a variety of B.Tech courses by JEE Advanced scoring like Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communications Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Biosciences and Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Chemical Science Technology, Maths and Computer Sciences.  

The Roorkee University, Indias oldest engineering college, was granted the status of an IIT in 2001. IIT Roorkee has secured a place among the worlds 600 best institutions according to Times Higher Education rankings. The first IIT was recognised in Kharagpur in the year 1951, while IIT Roorkee was Indias first engineering college.
